OPEN CALL 2026

Open Call for emerging talent in Norway within the fields of Architecture, Arts & Crafts, Design, and Fine Art.

Éditions du LIC is pleased to announce an Open Call for its 2026 publishing programme.

Founded in 2012, Éditions du LIC is an independent Oslo-based publishing platform dedicated to the creation of contemporary artist-led books. Operating as a creative collective, Éditions du LIC brings together artists, designers, and writers to produce carefully crafted limited-edition publications with strong editorial and material integrity.

To date, Éditions du LIC has published more than 30 artist books, working closely with artists on editorial development, production, and international distribution. Our publications have been presented at major international photography and art book events including Paris Photo, Offprint London, Rencontres d’Arles, Unseen Amsterdam, the New York Art Book Fair, and the Tokyo Art Book Fair, and are distributed through specialist bookstores, galleries, and museums worldwide.

For 2026, Éditions du LIC is relaunching its publishing programme with a renewed focus on emerging Norwegian visual artists and creative practitioners working toward working toward their first or second published book.

In addition to continuing our strong tradition in lens-based art books, our publishing agenda is now expanding to include projects within the fields of Architecture, Arts & Crafts, Design, and Fine Art.

Editorial Ethos

We are particularly interested in projects that are conceptually strong, visually rigorous and thoughtfully developed for the book as a primary artistic form.

We value projects where the book is not simply a documentation, but an integral part of the artistic practice and a meaningful vehicle for the work.

We place particular emphasis on contemporary relevance, curatorial clarity, sequencing, material choices, and the physical qualities of the book as an aesthetic object.

What We Are Looking For

We invite submissions from emerging Norwegian artists - especially final year students and recent graduates - who are developing a cohesive body of work suitable for publication as a book.

Projects may be at different stages of development. A finished book dummy is welcome but not required. We are especially interested in projects that will benefit from editorial dialogue and book-specific development.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit the following:

Short project description (200–300 words)

A clear description of the proposed book project: what it is about, how it has developed, what the material consists of, and why it makes sense as a book.

Artist statement (150–250 words)

A short statement about your wider artistic practice, interests, and approach, and how this project fits into your broader work.

Sample selection of images (from the project)

A representative edit of images from the proposed book project.

Book dummy (PDF) (if available)

A rough layout or sequencing showing how you currently imagine the book. This is optional but welcomed.

Brief CV or biography

Including education, exhibitions, publications, and relevant experience.

Deadline

Submission deadline: Sunday 15 March 2026

Submissions are reviewed as they are received. Early submissions are therefore encouraged.

What Happens Next

Selected artists will be contacted directly to discuss potential collaboration, editorial development, and next steps toward a publishing agreement.

If a project is shortlisted, this initial dialogue allows both artist and publisher to assess whether the collaboration is a good mutual fit before moving forward.

Funding & Financial Policy

Éditions du LIC believes in openness, honesty, and transparency in all aspects of publishing, especially relating to finance.

Unlike many independent publishers, Éditions du LIC has never received payment from artists for the work it does and has never charged artists any publishing fees for publishing their books. Any funding received has only ever been used to cover external production costs charged by printers and binders.

Many projects are supported through external funding or grants. Where relevant, Éditions du LIC is happy to advise on funding strategies and support artists as part of the collaboration.
